Losing our car key on the beach was a very expensive and even more annoying affair. After this experience we did some research for the right option to take the electronic car key with us safely. We wanted to prevent the trouble of being locked out of our car again in the wrong moment and at a place with no service around.
After we realized that sealing the car key into a plastic bag is a too fragile solution and leaving it behind in or around the car will ultimately invalidate the insurance, we started to develop our own solution. The idea of the Keyfender® was born.
Your car key is only safe when it’s with you. But if you are going onto the water or into nature under rough conditions, the delicate electronic key has to stay dry. You need a reliable way to carry it. The Keyfender® is designed to protect modern car keys and it goes where you go.
Our goal was to create a product that is as functional, flexible, reliable and handy as it is good looking.

Supplied with a high-quality neoprene strap and an extra adjustable belt, you can always carry the key case with you. The Keyfender® has been intensively tested and awarded DEKRA's IP 68 protection class for water resistance up to 10 meters. The Keyfender® is made in Germany.

To make sure your key fits inside the Keyfender® we include three self-adhesive but removable pads into the package. After choosing the right pad for your key it won’t rattle inside the Keyfender® and you are able to operate the buttons in a comfortable way.
Car keys with fold-out and fixed blade fit in the Keyfender® as well as keys with keyless go function. The maximum dimensions for the key are: 9.5 cm long, 3.9 cm wide and 2.1 cm high.
Most people drive to outdoor activities by car and often enough they end up searching for a place to keep their electronic car key safe and dry. Some chose to hide it near the car or leave it at the beach within some towels. Others lock it up to their car. Those options are no good ideas – since leaving the key behind invalidates your insurance.

We are Sylvia and Christoph, two passionate kite surfers, adventurers and are always looking for outdoor experiences. We love to be on the road in our van, go surfing and enjoy the nature. When our daughter Lola was 11 months old, we started touring Southern Europe and North Africa with the first prototype of the Keyfender® in our camper and gathered feedback and experience about what a key case should be capable of. After two years of development, we are now ready to start production with your support.
Our biggest dream is not only to be an active and loving family, but also to run our own little business independently. We proved to be a good team during the last two years of inventing the Keyfender®. It was a road with a lot of ups and downs and coping with some setbacks brought us even closer.
The Keyfender® will be produced by a certificated company in Hamburg. Our assembling and distribution partner is the Elbe workshops for people with disabilities in Hamburg. Due to the short distances we keep the Co2 foot print of our Keyfender® as low as possible.

We had to produce a lot of 3D-printed prototypes over the last two years before we were satisfied with the size and shape of the Keyfender®. We did a lot of testing and iterated several times before we had the final prototype. We now are able to say: we have the best solution possible ready to produce.
After we tested and developed the prototypes we started developing the injection molds and made them better and more reliable.
Here is what the different iterations, the production mold and the tested devices looked like:
The pressure mold we use to produce the Keyfender® is ready for production and good for at least the first 25.000 units. We worked on it intensively with an outstanding development partner for the last year.
We made sure we received the best result with our final production model of this first solution for our key case. We also got it tested under the regularities of german institutions and were awarded the IP68 protection class after it was left for one hour in 10m depth. Getting the Keyfender®s back from DEKRA with the certificate was another great day in the Keyfender® story!
The Keyfender® packaging doesn’t contain any plastic and is made of recyclable material.
